National Anti-Fur Day 2017
Thank you to all the community activists who joined us for National Anti-Fur Day in Victoria, outside The Empress Hotel. We handed out leaflets, did speak-outs, and spread the word to locals and visitors alike, that The Empress is selling cruel fur garments and it is time for them to remove these retailers from their hotel. It was a beautiful day and we received lots of community support.
For years a bengal tiger hung in the Bengal Lounge of The Empress hotel. Now, with renovations being underway we hear the tired trophy from a past era will finally be lain to rest.
However, it is also time for another symbol of a by-gone era to be removed from the Empress hotel, its two fur retailers.
Fur is inhumane and takes the lives of over 3 million animals in Canada each year alone. That does not include the hundreds of millions of animals killed each year around the world for this industry in deplorable conditions. No one in Victoria needs a fur coat, hat, or gloves and the only individuals that ever need their fur are the animals who have it stripped from their bodies, sometimes while they are still alive.
Join us in asking The Empress to ban this inhumane industry from their hotel lobby. Victoria is a city bustling with creative people and local spirit who make goods that are cruelty free and better reflect our local community than important fur of other animals. If you live in the Victoria tell them you think it is disgraceful that they carry these products. If you live out of town, tell them you will never stay in their hotel while the fur retailers continue to operate within.

National Anti-Fur Day 2016
Thank you to everyone who came out and took a stand against violent and inhumane fur retailers that hide within The Empress hotel.
It was a great day, even with the rain, with us sending a strong message to The Empress that they are complicit in the suffering of millions of animals every year when they allow these retailers to operate within their facility.
This is just day one of a long campaign and we are so grateful to be able to stand in solidarity with other communities across Canada in calling out the fur industry where ever it exists.
What you can do to let The Empress know you don’t support them having fur retailers in their hotel:
Contact The Empress and Bosa Development and tell them The Fur Needs To Go
Call them at: 250-389-2727
Email the Manager: firstname.lastname@example.org
Call Bosa Development: 604-294-0666
Beyond letting them know that you don’t support them allowing retailers who sell fur in their hotel, you can also tell them that you won’t be using their services or restaurants any longer. You can also let them know that you will be telling your guests from out of town not to stay at The Empress. Sadly, sometimes the only time some businesses listen is when it hurts their bottom line.
Please remember to always be respectful when communicating with them, this will elicit a more considerate reply.
Thank you for your time, help, and support!
